6. Advanced Macroeconomics, David Romer, ,Boston: McGraw-Hill, 2012, 4th Edition.

This book continues its tradition as the standard text and the starting point for graduate macroeconomic courses and helps lay the groundwork for students to begin doing research in macroeconomics and monetary economics. Formal models are used to present and analyze key ideas and issues. The theoretical analysis is supplemented by examples of relevant empirical work, illustrating the ways that theories can be applied and tested. This well-respected and well-known text is unique in the marketplace.

7. Microeconomic Analysis, Varian and Hal R., W.W. Norton, 1992, 3rd Edition.

This book has been a fixture of graduate programs in economics for fifteen years. It has held this position because it has the authority, the clarity, and the breadth necessary for a classic text. The book supplies the building blocks of microeconomic analysis: a thorough treatment of optimization and equilibrium methods, coupled with numerous examples of their application. The Third Edition expands on the earlier editions in two ways. First, the existing coverage has been rewritten and rearranged. Second, new chapters have been added on game theory, oligopoly, asset markets, and information economics.

8. Microeconometrics: Methods and Applications, A. Colin Cameron, Pravin K. Trivedi, Cambridge University Press, 2005.

This book provides the broadest treatment of microeconometrics available. It gives a sound introduction to the theory so that researchers can use the theory to solve their particular problems. It covers such a wide choice of topics and models by summarizing some of the theoretical points without ignoring the many important model-implementation details. In addition to the standard topics, this book provides thorough treatments of causality and data structures. Moreover, the chapter-length treatments of semiparametric methods, the bootstrap, simulation-based estimation, and estimation with data from complex survey designs provide exceptional coverage of these up-and-coming techniques.

9. Statistics for Management and Economics, Gerald Keller, South-Western College Pub, 2004, 7th Edition.

This book is the worldwide best selling business statistics text. It is currently being used at hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the world. This text teaches students how to apply statistics to real business problems through the authors' unique three-step approach to problem solving. Students learn to IDENTIFY the right technique by focusing on the relationship between the problem and data type. They then learn to COMPUTE the answer either by hand, using Excel, or using MINITAB. Finally, they INTERPRET the results in the context of the problem. This approach enhances student comprehension as well as practical skills, and offers maximum flexibility to instructors wishing to teach concepts by hand or with the computer, or by using both hand and computer methods.

10. Mathematical StatisticsBasic Ideas and Selected Topics, Peter J. Bickel, Kjell A. Doksum, 2000,  2nd Edition.

This classic, time-honored introduction to the theory and practice of statistics modeling and inference reflects the changing focus of contemporary Statistics. Coverage begins with the more general nonparametric point of view and then looks at parametric models as submodels of the nonparametric ones which can be described smoothly by Euclidean parameters. Although some computational issues are discussed, this is very much a book on theory. It relates theory to conceptual and technical issues encountered in practice, viewing theory as suggestive for practice, not prescriptive. It shows readers how assumptions which lead to neat theory may be unrealistic in practice.

11. Endogenous Growth Theory. Philippe Aqhion, Peter Howitt. MIT Press, 1998.

To understand the contradictory effects of technological change on the economy, one must delve into structural details of the innovation process to analyze how laws, institutions, customs, and regulations affect peoples' incentive and ability to create new knowledge and profit from it. To show how this can be done, Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt make use of Schumpeter's concept of creative destruction, the competitive process whereby entrepreneurs constantly seek new ideas that will render their rivals' ideas obsolete.Whereas other books on endogenous growth stress a particular aspect, such as trade or convergence, this book provides a comprehensive survey of the theoretical and empirical debates raised by modern growth theory. It develops a powerful engine of analysis that sheds light not only on economic growth per se, but on the many other phenomena that interact with growth, such as inequality, unemployment, capital accumulation, education, competition, natural resources, international trade, economic cycles, and public policy.
